General Guidelines

When preparing for a paintball or airsoft game at Robinhood Paintball, it's important to choose your clothing wisely for comfort and safety. Focus on wearing durable and protective clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. The aim is to cover as much skin as possible to minimize the sting from the hits.

While Robinhood Paintball provides some essential protective gear for players who choose a rental package, what you wear plays a crucial role. Paintballs and BBs can leave marks and sting, especially on bare skin, so wearing multiple layers can help cushion the impact. Always prioritize safety and comfort over fashion. The baggier the clothing the better, the projectile tends to catch the clothing instead.

Footwear

Ankle twists are the most common type of injury. To prevent this, wear boots or high-tops that offer good ankle support. Hiking boots are an excellent choice as they also provide good grip on uneven terrain. Old trainers are also suitable if they're comfortable and you don’t mind them getting wet or dirty.

For indoor fields, simple running shoes or tennis shoes are usually sufficient, as the terrain is often even and less rugged. However, avoid wearing open-toe footwear like sandals or flip-flops, as they provide no protection and are typically not allowed on the fields.

Bottom Half Protection

Comfort and protection are key when choosing legwear. Loose jogging or tracksuit bottoms are ideal, as they allow for a full range of motion while providing a layer of protection. Cargo pants are another good option, offering durability and multiple pockets for convenience.

If you're playing outdoors, long pants can protect you from environmental hazards such as brush, thorns, and insect bites. Indoors, they help prevent turf burns and provide an additional layer against the hit. For an all-in-one solution, consider wearing full-body coveralls.  If you have knee pads you should bring them, your knees will thank you later.

Top Half Protection

The main rule for paintball is to leave as little skin exposed as possible. Opt for long-sleeved shirts, hoodies, or jumpers. Layering is beneficial, especially in cooler weather, as it provides additional padding. A base layer of a long-sleeved shirt with a sweatshirt or hoodie on top is a good strategy.

In warmer weather, consider wearing a lightweight, long-sleeved shirt to stay cool while still protecting your skin. Always pack a waterproof jacket in case of rain, as getting wet can quickly turn an enjoyable game into an uncomfortable experience.

Head and Hand Protection

Headshots can be painful, so in addition to a protective mask, consider wearing a backward baseball cap or beanie to protect the top of your head. A sandana, a headband with attached netting, is also popular among paintball players for additional protection and comfort.

For your hands, choose gloves that offer protection without being cumbersome. Golf, gardening, or weight-lifting gloves work well, but paintball-specific gloves are ideal as they provide padding on the back of the hand and leave the fingers free for better trigger control. Fingerless gloves are a great option, as they protect your hands while allowing you to feel and squeeze the trigger easily.

Additional Tips and Considerations

Always bring a spare set of clothes and shoes to change into after the game. This will save you from traveling back in soggy, dirty attire.

It's also a good idea to bring a towel and wet wipes for quick clean-ups, as well as a plastic bag for your dirty clothes. Hydration is crucial, so bring a water bottle, especially if you're playing in hot weather. If you wear glasses, consider using an anti-fog spray to prevent them from fogging up under your mask.

Summer Paintball and Airsoft Tips

In hotter weather, layer up with thinner clothing instead of bulky items. A couple of long-sleeved shirts can replace a hoodie. Even in summer, avoid shorts and t-shirts to prevent painful hits. Opt for breathable yet protective clothing to stay cool and safe.

Lightweight, moisture-wicking fabrics are ideal for summer play, as they help keep you cool and dry. Avoid cotton, as it tends to retain moisture and can become uncomfortable. Don't forget to apply sunscreen to any exposed skin.

Does It Stain? Cleaning Paint from Clothes and Skin

Don't worry about paint stains; paintballs are water-soluble and non-toxic. They will wash out of your clothing in a normal wash cycle. Paint on your skin or hair will also wash out easily in the shower, and the paint is hypoallergenic, ensuring no adverse reactions.

To make cleaning easier, soak your clothes in cold water as soon as possible after the game to prevent the paint from setting. For stubborn areas, pre-treat the area with a stain remover before washing. Remember to wash your gear separately from your regular laundry to avoid transferring paint residue.

By following these guidelines, you'll be well-prepared for a safe and enjoyable paintball or airsoft experience at Robinhood Paintball. Remember, comfort and protection are your top priorities, so dress accordingly and have fun!
